I’m feeling blue….

March 8, 2008

…Blue Grotto, that is! That’s the name of our new mini-kit freebie. It’s actually a “reject” from the LDD Apprentice Program. I’m thrilled to say that my dear friend Liv was accepted, and if you look at her amazing Adventure kit you will see why! I can honestly say that I understand why we didn’t make it in, after viewing the 40 first round winners.   I like our papers, but the elements aren’t very inspired or creative.  It was a good learning experience and I hope that we can continue to grow and evolve in our designing.  If you would like to download our papers (and somewhat boring elements)  just click on the 4shared link below the preview!

I’m also feeling “blue” because I took the Color Sense Game (sponsored by Porter Paints) and it seems as if I am a “water bead”.  It’s a seven question on-line quiz that you take to determine your color preferences.  They had a link to this quiz on the Memory-Makers website.  It only takes a minute or two to play and it’s really fun…let me know what color you come out to be!

Another reason to feel “blue” is if you stop to think about the enormity of world hunger.  The good news is there is an educational & interactive website that helps fight hunger by donating rice to millions of needy people.  The website is called and it is the brainchild of a computer programmer named John Breen (gotta love those computer geeks)!   It is an on-line vocabulary quiz, and for each word that you get correct, 20 grains of rice are donated through the UN World Food Program.   All you do is just click on the answer that you think best describes the word…it’s as easy as that!  To date over 20 billion grains of rice have been donated (that’s enough to feed almost a million people for a day).  So check the website out…gain some word knowledge…and help others in the process!

Are you Tigger or Eeyore?

February 20, 2008

I don’t know if you have ever heard about Dr. Randy Pausch, or watched him speak on Oprah, but if you do anything else today…please try to find 10 minutes  to watch this video and hear his story  (you’ll be glad you did)! If you’ve had a bad day and things aren’t going right…this will definitely put all of that into perspective!  It is funny, educational, and inspirational. Oh, and let me know if you’re Tigger or Eeyore.  (I’m a Tigger!)

“Digi” is my middle name…

February 13, 2008

…well, actually my middle name is Dawn.  (surprise)!!!  My first name is really Barbara, although the only time I’ve been called that was on the first day of school.  The teacher would call the roll and then I’d always have to say, “but I go by my middle name…Dawn”.  I came to dread that moment every year, because I was very quiet/shy and would hate to draw attention to myself.  The reason I use my middle name is because my Mom’s first name is Barbara too (although she never uses it, she is either Bobbie or Be).

Anyway, the reason I’m talking about this is that I’ve been “tagged” by Liv, the Queen of the Spragueland playground.

These are the rules: You must post the rules before you give your answers. You must list one fact about yourself for each letter of your middle name. Each fact must begin with that letter. If you don’t have a middle name, just use your maiden name. After you’ve been tagged, you need to up-date your blog with your middle name and answers. At the end of your post, you need to tag one person for each letter of your middle name. Be sure to leave them a comment telling them they’ve been tagged and need to read your blog for details.

So, here goes:

“D”: Digi-holic.  The definition (despite the fact that it’s not in the dictionary) is one that  is addicted to digital photography and digital scrapbooking, and can’t get through the day without their daily dose of each.  Whether it’s checking out websites, blogs, buying books or magazines,  taking photos, making LO’s, creating digi-kits, or taking classes…I love it!

“A’: Authentic.  Okay, so I had to go through the dictionary to come up with this one (but I think it works).  The defintion of authentic is genuine, trustworthy and reliable…and that’s pretty much me in a nutshell.

“W’: Wonder.  Every day I am filled with amazement & a sense of wonder about nature and the little things of life.  The sunrises and the sunsets. The beautiful red cardinal that visits our birdfeeder.    The snow covered trees & bushes.  Life is a joy to behold.

“N”:  News, new, and more news.  Whether it’s reading the newspaper in the morning, watching CNN, or  listening to the local talk-radio station…I love to find out what’s happening in the world.

So there you have it…DAWN defined!  Now I need to get started on the other “tag” that I got from the wonderful Deb P.  But first, I need to tag 4 unsuspecting victims  lucky bloggers to join in the fun.  So tag…you’re it Carol, Chrystal, DonnaS and SusanD

A paler shade of green…

January 6, 2008

I have a confession to make…I’m not very “green” (except maybe on St. Patty’s Day).  I guess I’m what you’d call light green.  We recycle, but only our newspapers.  We use the compact fluorescent lightbulbs, but not in all of our lamps.   We try to turn off lights in rooms that we’re not using, but sometimes we forget.  You get the picture.

Anyway, I watched part of Oprah the other day (it was a re-run) and her show was about simple things you can do to help the environment.  I thought there were a couple of things that I just might be able to do!   One easy suggestion (and I’m all about easy) is  to use just 1 less napkin per day.  I can do that!  Another was to forgo getting your ATM receipts.  I can do that too…as long as I remember to put the withdrawal in the checkbook!  They talked about a “Smart” Power Strip that you plug your electronic devices into and it conserves energy and saves you $ (it’s available at Bed, Bath & Beyond, so use your coupon)…I think I can do that too!

I was in Target the other day (I love Target) and noticed they were carrying a new product line called “Care Mail” that was made from recycled materials.  It included items such as packing tape, mailing envelopes, and the like.  I thought it was a great idea and I would definitely buy them if I needed to mail anything!

Now I’m not going to get all fanatical about this.  I’m not going to rush out and watch “An Inconvenient Truth” or start quoting Matt Damon or anything like that.   Still, I think that there are some relatively painless things that I can do to now to help the earth later!   Maybe Kermit meant to sing “It’s easy being Green”…

Snippets from a Boring Life…

November 20, 2007

So…if you had told me 6 months ago that I would have a blog, I would have said you were hallucinating.  If you had said I would be creating digi-scrapbook pages and designing digi kits with my 14 yr old daughter, I would have thought you were dreaming.  If you had said I would have friends from the Philipines, Great Britain, Sweden (not to mention many states here in the US)  that I had never actually met before, I would have sent you to the doctors for a check-up!

But, thanks to Jessica Sprague and her amazing “Up & Running” and “Now We’re Rockin” with Photoshop classes all of the above is not a dream…it’s a reality.  I started taking her first class in June and prior to that I had never tried digi-scrapping or PSE.  I had only just started using a digital camera a month before that!!!

Which brings us to my very first blog posting.  I don’t really think I’ll be writing about my daily activities…although you may get a snippet or two from my very boring life!  Suffice it to say I am a SAHM to 2 great (really) kids doing the usual SAHM things, and am loving every minute of it!   I’m sure this will evolve as it goes along, but I’m thinking I’d like to use this blog to pass along great tips/ideas/techniques that I find along the way.

Thanks for visiting and please stop by the comments to say “hi”!
